I created a directory in /mnt and added it to fstab:
# <file system> <mount point>   <type>  <options>       <dump>  <pass>
/dev/sda1       /mnt/camera     vfat    rw,user,noauto  0       0

I always mount manually as a normal user. I have it set to mount read 
only so I don't accidentally erase any photos.
