You know, you can always just download the hosts file (takes just a minute or so), copy any important lines from your existing hosts file to the top of it, make it your new hosts file, and use it for awhile to see if it works for your needs. It's so much simpler than installing new software or making a hardware firewall... you don't have anything to lose by trying it.
