No, that'd be straight (I liked Jared's explaination too). I just want to add here that many newer switches auto-detect their connection (check the manual), so you can use either straight or crossover cables. You can think of them as bisexual. ;) > * What about my original question : If I have add a second router, > but I really only want it to function as a switch, will that work? Certainly. You can think of a switch as a juiced up hub, and a router as a juiced up switch. You can connect the 2nd router's wan port to a numbered port on the primary router (straight cable if not auto detected), then configure the 2nd router appropriately (turn off dhcp server functionality, etc.) > > Any website/book recommendations for someone who wants to learn more > about setting up networks? > > thanks again, > alex > --------------------------------------------------- > PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: > http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss > > -- -Eric 'shubes' "There is no such thing as the People; it is a collectivist myth.
