Sorry.  I forget the (expletive deleted) mailer defaults to HTML, even when 
there's nothing close to HTML in the message.  I'm sure this is a conspiracy; I 
recall looking and found no option to disable this except every message 
turning it off.

I should probably move my subscription to my gmail account, but that would 
involve effort. :D
