Somewhere in the past, I read that 'scramblers' or
things that mess with police radars is illegal.
Detectors are not here in AZ, but are for sure in
Michigan and have been for years, not sure about other
states on detectors. 

But anything that 'jams' or scrambles a police radar
is illegal in most states if caught with it. Maybe a
federal reg, not sure, but would not be surprised
about jammers and the feds due to military radars for
defense. The law is much like if you tried to jam tv
station channel 12 for instance. The preceived notion
that they have the right to catch you and you don't
have the right to block them when YOU are breaking the
law!! Vaguely like 'unlawfull flight to avoid arrest'!

It used to be that old style radars took a couple or
so seconds to 'lock a reading', but now, IF you are
the sole vehicle in sight, you will get the ticket
even if you brake immediately (depending on the 'mood'
of the officer)!! I doubt that any of us can hit the
brakes and start slowing down in less than a second
when we are on a trip, enjoying the sights, and the
detector doesn't detect before we get in line of
sight.

The reason previously (early radars) that you could
brake hard was a two or three second period that two
readings had to match before the radar gun would give
a reading to the officer. Now, it is almost instantaneous.

Cyclists should expect and demand safe 
accommodation on our public roads, 
just as does every other user.  

Nothing more is expected. 

Nothing less is acceptable!
