Look for a filename named /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall. Look for the following string: /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p icmp --icmp-type 8 -j ACCEPT Repleace the word ACCEPT with DROP. Reboot. That should fix the pings being anwserable to the internet.
