They take it a step farther for home directories by integrating it directly into the GUI: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/filevault/ When I wanted my home dir on my PowerBook encrypted, I just clicked on the button in the config panel and that was it. Everything else was taken care of for me. It automatically mounts my homedir when I log in and umounts it when I log out. Pretty slick.
