It is so bizzare. Whe I try to talk to someone when they respond I get ascii 
chaaracters that when looked at form letters but it is very difficult. Any 
ideas about fixing this? I went to preferences an fiddled with that a bit but 
it didn't help any.

an example:

y{}u r34||y |\|33|} 7{} 57{}p |\|{}\^/ y{}ur 4|| i|\| {()3} 4|\|| } i {4|\||\|
{}7|-| I if3 {}f /v\3 figur3 i7 {}u7


which I see as:
you  really  need  to stop     now     your  all  in ????   an ???? i ??? 
?????????? of   we    figure it out
