Wife wanted me to wipe out the hd. We copied (twice) to cdrom 'her files'. I used three different partition managers and cannot get even Knoppix to write to them. Knoppix will 'save config', make swap file, but will not write from OO.o or kwrite. This is a Gateway kludge in that apparently there is a secondary disk controller similiar to this machine. It is built in whereas this one is an addon card for a modern hd (not one of the old pio3/4 types). the reason I believe it has a secondary controller is several fold. 1. First drive (primary) is hde1 not hda1 and all 'logicals' are hdeX also. 2. That is the way this ole 350 denotes drives also with its secondary controller. (like that promise ultra 66 card that was given away at eastside thursday.) Well, 'the power to be', er, the wife, doesn't want an installed system, but rather a 'poorman's install' of knoppix. Knoppix boots from cd, but wont copy to hd. Strange that BEFORE I resized and reformatted the hd, she had no problems booting to Knoppix3.6 'poorman's install' version. It had a crippled w98 on hde1 and a one disk Suse 9 on one partition. I cannot get it to reinstall even that 'poor man's' mirrored iso image! It just skips the 'knoppix cheatcode' to do so! Strange! May have to drag it down to ASU Saturday, but would love to fix it here. Cyclists should expect and demand safe accommodation on our public roads, just as does every other user. Nothing more is expected. Nothing less is acceptable! Long live Knoppix!! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
