I just bought an new motherboard without worrying about the sound built
into it.  Fedora 3 just worked.  I'll have to check what the hardware is
at home tonight.

Tell us a little more:
- You want a sound card that plugs into a PCI slot, correct?
- Do you want 6 channel or 4 or standard 2 channel?
- What have you tried, if anything?
