Sorry, I am out with sinus infection ... but 1) Java - get the .bin from Sun. Install it in place of choice (I put it in /opt). Set links to java, javac in /bin or somewhere. Or preferably use update-alternatives (see manpage) to get the links set right (its kind of a pain but woks well once you get it). 2) Linux on a sparc ... its a pain in the but ... especially if they don't have floppy or CDROM ... tftp netboot then ftp or nfs install of debian stable. 3) Centrino wireless ... goes easily on FC3 ... I did it recently for Intel 2200 and intel 2100 minipci cards. Look at ipw2110.sf.net and ipw2200.sf.net. There are RPMs and other packages for both. Make sure you have the latest kernel and then install the firmware ... if you have FC3 then you can use the RPMs menioned on the above site and be running in no time. Use lspci to determine which card you have. 4) Thinkpads have good compatibility ... lots of info on tuxmobile or http://www.linux-laptop.net/ I just did an install of FC3 on a T42 and it went swimmingly ... lots of stuff worked right out of the box. Niceset laptop install I have ever experienced. Make sure you update to the latest kernel ... see centrino wireless above if its a T42 or other version with the intel 2100/2200. best of luck.
