Sorry to take so long to get back to this, yesterday was a long day...

I have supermount enabled so don't do a mount command per se.

With a data cd:

tigerflag@localhost:~$ cd /mnt/cdrom1
tigerflag@localhost:/mnt/cdrom1$ ls
tigerflag@localhost:/mnt/cdrom1$
(nothing shows up)

tigerflag@localhost:/cdrom1$ ls
tigerflag@localhost:/cdrom1$ 
(nothing shows up)

With K3b and an audio cd, it simply says "No disk in drive"

Here is my fstab after some tinkering. It wasn't originally like this, but 
Kano (the fellow who developed Kanotix) was helping me with this problem and 
wanted me to try supermount. After following his instructions, my fstab looks 
like this. I've never seen anything like this before:

/cdrom   /cdrom  supermount fs=auto,dev=/dev/cdrom 0 0
/dev/hdd  /mnt/cdrom1  supermount fs=auto,dev=/dev/cdrom1 0 0
/dev/cdaudio  /cdaudio   iso9660  defaults,ro,users,noexec,noauto  0  0

I have this problem whether root or user, and also in Vector Linux 
(Slackware-based) on a different partition, with a more normal-looking fstab.
