Thanks guys for the tips. (it's been a week , I know) I went to Fry's and found an 84cfm fan (not the 140), cut the wires to fit the connector and this short term solution seems to be working fine for now. The fan was $17.99. I found a refurb power suppply replacement for $40 which is on the way then I can get a replacment fan for $5.00 and repair the old Power supply. In other cooling news, my home system started to make 'the fan is dying' sounds. The motherboard is an ABIT IS7 with an Intel (boxed) 2.4Ghz processor. Every 6 months, I open my case and clean the dust out. As needed, I clean the dust off the exterior vents and exhausts. 3 fans were dying. The exhaust, northbridge, and video card. The exhaust was nobig deal, quick replacement. The northbridge I found to be a common problem on this motherboard and is on backorder with the manufacturer. Browsing through the forums, I found that removing the fan is OK as long as there is no overclocking which is fine in my situation. After 1 hour of operation, the heatsink wasn't hot or even uncomfortably warm. The video card fan is the problem. I disconnect the fan to see how hot it would get and it's pretty damn hot. It's a standard nVidia 5200 series put out by PNY. Anybody have recommendations to cooling this card?
