I have been trying to build a bunch of software from source on an AMD Athlon XP 1500+ I just built. I am getting lots of compile time errors on 3d_now, 3d_now2, mmx, mmx2, and sse. I couldn't figure it out and I've been playing with the -O2 -O3 and -march -mcpu -mtune options and nothing seems to fix it. i decided to play a little test. I setup these systems: Pentium III 933 x 384 mb ram Pentium 4 2.4 GHz 512 mb ram AMD Duron 750 x 256 mb ram AMD Athlon XP 1500+ x 256 mb ram I installed a base slackware 10.1 with X but no gnome or kde. I began compiling all the requirements for transcode. Multimedia libraries and such... My intel systems ran through everything so far flawlessly. i am doing everything exactely the same. I start one compile and I wait till they are all finished, using all the same options. Both intel systems have completed everything and can rip dvds, transcode them to divx5 and play them. Both AMD systems never got that far. I could not compile Mplayer, xine-lib, transcode, avifile, ffmpeg, smpeg, lame did compile okay... Is this normal? Is this the trouble I'm going to have with AMD systems? Or is this something freakish happening here? I really want to know so I have tried to do everything little thing exactley the same. I am using the stock 2.6.10 kernels from slack 10.1, but the 2.4.29 kernel-headers as that's what the system is built on. I'm considering using the gcc-3.4.3 compiler that is in extra... But I don't know if I want to bother with it! Any thoughts? nathan --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
