Try booting from cd's with a 'newer' cdrom installed. Probably will work unless the system was a dedicated server/work station that has a funky bios like my old ibm w/s has. I had to buy two cdrom drives for two old systems to get 'live booting' without floppies. Cyclists should expect and demand safe accommodation on our public roads, just as does every other user.
