In Python, indentation is syntactically significant (wow -- I sound like a programmer when I use big words!). So tabs vs. spaces can mean that Python code doesn't even parse. (sigh) But here's a language, in which "any non whitespace characters are ignored; only spaces, tabs and newlines are considered syntax."
