I'll chime in on the Samsung ML-1710. There's a newer model out now but I bought at Fry's for $99. The starter cartridge sucked through. 200 pages then dead and a replacement was $70 but it's fast and prints Linux/Mac. I setup a $50 printer server (some Buffalo brand return at Fry's) and works like a champ.
