This points out situations where we need to take charge and suggest something reasonable. > Hardware raid should simply appear as a single SCSI hard drive. The Adaptec card in these machines isn't supported and needs to be swapped if you want to do RAID with Linux. One of the many cases of having a little info up front that will save hours. The point is, we want to avoid simple trying different distros hoping one will work, then after a couple of hours wasted there is still no success. I think it much more professional to tell the person that a show-stopper has be reached and give the reason why the install can't proceed than to just throw up our hands and they walk away thinking the Linux really is *too hard* to use. > ---- > http://www.fedorafaq.org > > a shortcut on the desktop or adding it to the 'bookmarks' would be good > > or more specifically > http://www.fedorafaq.org/#xmms-mp3 Good idea. I'm working on an InstallFest Handbook that the person can take with them. Something that explains the InstallFest process so they can come prepared and brings them up to speed on some things we take for granted like why Linux is free (free speech) and where to look online for help. Training wheels, so to speak. We've boosted them up on the bicycle seat and given them a push. I don't want to see them fall before they get their balance. > ---- > > This means creating a follow up sheet for each install and creating a > > checklist for that distro. > ---- > good idea > ---- > > > > Yes, it means chasing a lot of details, but the payoff is that the > > InstallFest will be a fun learning experience for all. > > > > Anyway, my 2 cents worth and hope it didn't sound too much like a rant. > ---- > good points > > Craig > Thanks Craig --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
