Have you tried ctrl+alt+del | Task Manager | Processes and see what is using all the memory and CPU ?? I would start here. I to ran XP with Norton (never a glitch!) and T-bird | Firebird and NEVER had an issue. I would start with virus scan, spyware scan (search google), kill processes!!
