OK, I finally just forced a modeline for the monitor. Don't know if this
would be the "correct" solution, but it works for my problem right now.

Modeline as follows, for a 68/85 refresh on my monitor (Hitachi CM771)
ModeLine "1024x768" 96.70 1024 1072 1312 1408 768 770 782 808

Important part is 96.70. Higher values yield higher H and V refresh
rates. For some reason, it doesn't seem to be the same video mode that
the "native" (non-forced) 68/85 is though.

Would anyone have a better solution?
