Which makes sense, because everything would crash after my modem would start, but before it would never actually dial. I found mention of this bug when I did some googling. I edited the file by hand was only after I had tried three times to use the network configuration tool. I didn't know about pppconfig- maybe I'll try it again sometime. Most Linux newbies wouldn't know about pppconfig, that's why I don't think it's a good distro to hand out to newbies.
