Some vendors put different chipsets in the same model numbered cards, so you need to install it to find out. Assuming it's PCI or cardbus (not USB), do an "lspci -nv" command and look for a Class 0280 device - that's a network controller. The xxxx:xxxx following "Class 0280:" indicates what manufacturer:chipset the device contains. You can do a "lspci -v" command for a more human readable form, but the device may or may not be defined (yet).
