it took about a week i guess. but gentoo is running.
stage3 install with genkernel just to make it easy.

question: after i rebooted I got an error about the
file system on /dev/hda1

not knowing what to do I tried #mke2fs /dev/hda1

and it worked. but i remember doing that  during the
install.

any ideas as to why the filesystem on /dev/hda1 wasn't
set correctly the first time?

at any rate it did boot up and works now, but just
curious.
