Start your postfix with "postfix start".

With default postfix installs, the SMTP service should work fine and relay
mail for your same box and for the systems on your internal network.

Also, have a look at output of "postconf".

You will need to install an additional POP3 server. (I maintain vm-pop3d
but the version linked at the site is the old version.)

POP3 servers generally have no setup other than to start via inetd/xinetd
or run as a stand-alone daemon. (Of course, the POP3 server must have the
privilege to lookup passwords and to be able to read and modify the
mailbox. I mention that because my vm-pop3d can be ran without any root
privileges in specia setups.)
