What's the config for lilo on that floppy? It might provide some useful

When I compare this one to my menu.lst, I see differences on both the kernel
and initrd lines.

My kernel line has the ro option before the root=/dev/...
My initrd image is not compressed - no .gz extension. I don't know if grub
can handle a compressed image or not. If it were me, I'd try uncompressing
the image and setting grub to use that. NOTE!!! Make a backup of your
existing image FIRST!!! It's always better to be safe than sorry.
