Here's how I did it:

Replace the line in .Xclients that says exec default-session (or something like
that)
with exec ratpoison
#! /bin/bash

# Created by Red Hat Desktop Switcher

if [ -e "$HOME/.Xclients-$HOSTNAME$DISPLAY" ]; then
    exec $HOME/.Xclients-$HOSTNAME$DISPLAY
else
    exec ratpoison
fi

That was one way, at any rate!
