1) Complete separation from the two systems talking to eachother (black 
box treatment).
2) Built in data validation (in theory)
3) Atomic transaction, accept record set or reject record set
4) Human readable
5) Data 'self documenting'
6) Support availiable in many languages, databases,etc.
