Not exactly a no-name, but I bought an Epson "Perfection" 1260 a while 
back that was a challenge to get working.  Works with SANE, as another 
model, of course.  You can search the SANE database and see if what you're 
intending to use is in there.  They've also got some tips for trying to 
get non-listed models working.
