Try "ifconfig eth0 up" as root then "dhcpcd eth0" Ifconfig will bring up the network on your first ethernet card (assuming you only have one and that's connected to DSL) and the second command will grag an IP address. Run ifconfig without an argument and you should see that eth0 now has an address to the outside world.
