Well, I got it (AOPEN CRW1232) but don't really know how to get it installed. After googling I found that I am supposed to to add to append in lilo.conf 'hdd=ide-scsi' which I did. I then rebooted and found that while that may have been part of the solution it made no noticable difference to me. I think the computer sees it. dmesg gives: hdd: AOPEN CRW1232, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive Very cool! sudo k3b started the burner program and the output messages indicate that it sees the burner (1). Then a window opens saying "Could not start process Unknown protocol 'file'." and 'Could not find mime type application/octet-stream'. Then the program crashes. Well look at that! At the bottom of 1- it seems that the first CDROM has many more aliases than the new one. Could that be a problem. -- <:-)Mike(-:> 1- bmike1@0[bmike1]$ sudo k3b (K3bExternalBinManager) Cdrecord 2.1a19 features: gracetime, overburn, cdtext, -snip- clone, cuefile, suidroot, plain-atapi, hacked-atapi (K3bExternalBinManager) 2 1 -1 a19 seems to be cdrecord version >= 1.11a02, using burnfree instead of burnproof (K3bExternalBinManager) seems to be cdrecord version >= 1.11a31, support for Just Link via burnfree driveroption /dev/sr0 resolved to /dev/scd0 /dev/scd0 is block device (0) /dev/scd0 seems to be cdrom bus: 0, id: 0, lun: 0 (K3bCdDevice) /dev/scd0: init() (K3bCdDevice::ScsiCommand) failed: fd: 11 errorcode: p (K3bCdDevice) /dev/scd0: GET_CONFIGURATION failed. /dev/scd0 resolved to /dev/scd0 /dev/scd0 is block device (0) /dev/scd0 seems to be cdrom (K3bDeviceManager) dev /dev/scd0 already found /dev/hdd resolved to /dev/hdd /dev/hdd is block device (64) /dev/hdd seems to be cdrom (K3bCdDevice) /dev/hdd: init() (K3bCdDevice::ScsiCommand) failed: fd: 11 errorcode: p (K3bCdDevice) /dev/hdd: GET_CONFIGURATION failed.
