Try running
dhcpcd eth0 
and see if it brings up the eth0 device, If you did not install the
dhcpcd package, just try
ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.230 netmask 255.255.255.0
and see what happens, ofcourse, change your ip to what ever you need.
