I think those are the default serial port settings for minicom. If not, you can change them by creating (or editing existing) default config file. It's probably /etc/minicom/minirc.dfl and should look like this for communicating with your Cisco switch. Substitute the appropriate port if different than /dev/ttyS0. pr port /dev/ttyS0 pu baudrate 9600 pu bits 8 pu parity N pu stopbits 1 You can also tweak all this from the menu within minicom. To invoke the menu, press Ctl+A, then press Z. Explore the many options, but try not to change anything unless you understand the impact because the defaults are quite sane for most uses.
