In my opinion the software written for the distro by the distro is
something you get.  However, in this case I think Debian's software is
better than Red Hat/SuSE, so I do not see that as an "advantage".

Huh?  I assume you mean Debian not MS?  Debian gives some of the best
support on the planet.  It just doesn't have commercial support.  Which is
a factor.

You can't hold the company accountable either.  Read their EULA.  Almost
every vendor has a "not liable" clause.
