Well I can only speak to one of these. Linux in the past has never been a real 
good pnp system. That was something concocted by MS, and of course that API 
was not open for all to see. A good stab was made but didn't quite make it. I 
know that pnp was still broken for 2.4 for some things, and most people just 
turned it off. I can't say for 2.6 kernels though.
