The ugly thing about this is that they then use these addresses not just as recipients, but as the "sender" as well -- randomly. The effect is that everyone whose addresses the victim has on his PC (if it's a Windows PC) is likely to receive a worm-bearing message from someone he recognizes as an acquaintance, and is more likely to open the attachment ... Y'know, there are some people who deny that there is any such thing as "evil". Go figure.
