Please file a bug report. Not sure it's the fault of fai, but that's probably where you should file it. Look in /var/lib/dpkg. You should have statoverride and statoverride-old. They're probably only a couple of lines. cat them into a reply, so we can see what they are. Do you still have an entry for root in /etc/passwd? How about in /etc/shadow? ( you'll have to be root to look at the latter, so you might run into a chicken and egg problem ). grep ^root /etc/passwd /etc/shadow BTW, please replace the stuff between the 2nd and 3rd colon from /etc/shadow with or something. If you can't login at all, boot with a rescue disk and look at the system with that. debian install CDs and Knoppix will work for this. ciao, der.hans > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Jim Smith" > Date: Tue, 06 Apr 2004 07:30:08 +0800 > To: plug-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us > Subject: installed a deb package and system went belly up > > > I installed fai " Fully Automatic Installation" and once I figured out it was not what I wanted installed I did a apt-get --purge remove fai and then the system went belly up, I can not login to it at all and when it boots up the system complains about not being able to find any users or groups for example clamav will not start not will squid nor will sshd. > > > > > > Any Suggestions? > > > > Jim > > -- > > ______________________________________________ > > Check out the latest SMS services @ http://www.linuxmail.org > > This allows you to send and receive SMS through your mailbox. > > > > > > Powered by Outblaze > > --------------------------------------------------- > > PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us > > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: > > http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss > > -- # https://www.LuftHans.com/ http://www.AZOTO.org/ # If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange apples then # you and I will still each have one apple.
