As has already been pointed out, RH removed support for non-royalty free codecs to keep them from being a target of lawsuits. It was a move to keep them from having to pay a fee for every copy of their distro that was downloaded or sold as that would have gotten quite expensive since lots of people just download the isos from the Net.
