For example, the relevant line for Red Hat 9 is: append="root=LABEL=/ acpi=off apm=off" I was using this system for several hours, and then left it alone for about an hour, and when I returned, it was in screensaver mode and hung again. And in answer to Jeff's suggestion - I've switched off every BIOS setting I can find that looks remotely related to APM. There's nothing that says I can explicitly turn power management off, though. I'm not sure I'm on the right track with this, but the end of /var/log/messages from RH9 does seem to make power management look guilty: Mar 30 14:49:27 lowell kernel: Uhhuh.
