Yesterday a few vendor reps were talking to us, and one of them mentioned that he invested in the smart HD...he said that it complained about a drive going south, and after a week of these warnings, the hard-drive did go bad. He was glad he backed everything up after the first warning. So, though I'm a second hand source, I've heard that the smart HD are accurate enough to give you fair warning.
