Thanks for the input, Kevin. I lied. X is not installed on my machine. Its installation failed due to a broken link at IBM, to their Java Development Kit. Why does Debian's install depend on a version of a software package held hostage by a single site? I thought Debian was all about purity of the Free Software concept. (I go to a site in China or Russia to exercise my "freedom", but decided against that.) The file is: ibm-jdk-l118-linux-x86.tgz All the pointers are to: http://www.ibm.com/java/jdk/118/linux/ ... which bounced me to a general page: http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/java/ I have searched the IBM site (after signing in with my home phone number, mailing address, all that stuff) and can't find the recommended file at all. So, does anybody in our group have a copy of this file? Or a valid link to it at IBM?
