moin, moin, I've read articles on a few GNU/Linux appliances, but haven't kept tabs on things. I'm looking for something for someone else that can just be plugged in and used for filestorage and backup. Filestorage needs to be samba and possibly NFS and at this point I'd prefer snapshot backups with the option of writing them to DVD. I'd like it to hold a 100GB+ and it needs to use RAID. I'd prefere hardware RAID, but software should be OK. Working as a print server wouldn't be a bad bonus. As would functioning as a DHCP server. Redundant power would be outstanding. I want to be able to purchase support for the product for both hardware and software. Source availability, of course, is a requirement. In fact, expect the source code for the product to be in the first backup :). Any suggestions? I'm familiar with NAS from Linksys and despite the employee discount ( Cisco owns linksys ), it doesn't appear to be what I want. I'm not even completely certain it's GNU/Linux-based. http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=35&scid=43&prid=447 If all else fails, I'd like a supported hardware solution and I'll take care of the software. ciao, der.hans -- # https://www.LuftHans.com/ http://www.AZOTO.org/ # We now return you to your regularly scheduled paranoia... --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
