You can do it from the commandline as root (use sudo):

ifconfig <interface> <gateway_address> <ip_address>
route add default gw <gateway_address> netmask <netmask>
ie:
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.254 192.168.1.1
route add default gw 192.168.1.254 netmask 0.0.0.0
