Maybe try configuring X: XFree86 -configure XFree86 -xf86config /path/to/file/mentioned/by/above # to test cp /path/to/file/mentioned/by/above /etc/XF86Config and as a normal user, run: startx For KDE and others, install the ports collection (/usr/ports) or use binary packages.
