I didn't see the word "only" in that statement.
I took it as meaning that this celebration is
part of melting pot.  Anyone who fails to appreciate
the cultures that surround us (Yes, including *gasp*
Christianity) is missing something ... including the
real point of that religion stuff.

I don't think *anyone* was acting offended.
They were just enjoying joking with old friends
and poking fun at a kind of argument that is, yes,
part of our culture.

BTW, the AZ Repugnant had an article that taught me
a new word:  Excessmas.  But some folks still do
really celebrate Christmas ... just as a few of them
still really celebrate the solstice.  ;-)
