Based on the discussion and suggestions here, I conducted an experim= ent=20 just a few minutes ago. I recorded three music-rated CD-Rs, same brand (Memorex), with the s= ame=20 data but at three different speeds: 32X (the max. my recorder supports), = 8X,=20 and 2X. I then sample-played the CD-Rs on four different audio-CD players= =20 here in the house including one that has always had trouble with the musi= c=20 CD-Rs I've created in the past. The 32X-recorded CD-R played on three machines without problem but w= ould=20 not load, much less play, on the one troublesome machine. (It said there = was=20 "no disc" present.) The 8X-recorded CD-R played on all four machines but had occasional=20 drop-outs on the one troublesome machine. The 2X-recorded CD-R played, without problem, on all four machines. I think the results are conclusive: slower is better. Thanks to all for the tips and suggestions, and pointing the way to = a=20 solution. --=20 Ed Skinner, ed@flat5.net, http://www.flat5.net/
