I have heard bits and pieces might be based of debian etc, but was wondering if anyone heard anything else? It is Bruce Peren's reaction to Red Hat abandoning the desktop and others stating issues with GNU/Linux on the home desktop. It will be Debian GNU/Linux based. At Desktop Linux Consortium[1] Conference Bruce Peren's suggested that the community rally behind a user focused distribution built on top of Debian.[2] He then clarified in more detail what that might mean to Wired magazine. [3] He supposedly has corporate backers and expects a release in about six months. One author at LinuxWorld did an expose on what this gnUserLinux might look like. Bruce took the time to respond point for point. This is probably the most telling piece of what gnUserLinux might really look like. [4] Hope that sums it up. Until Bruce releases the manifesto and names his corporate backers there isn't a lot to talk about. Please do remember one knock many people have on Bruce is that he has lots of ideas he seems extremely gungho about and starts, but never quite finishes. Let's hope this isn't one of those, or if it is never distracts enough developers as to hinder more sustaining efforts. I have some hope in that Bruce is a Debian guy. I think he will hold pretty true to Debian. Time will tell. - -Derek [1] http://www.desktoplinuxconsortium.org/ [2] http://www.infoworld.com/article/03/11/10/HNdesktopwalk_1.html [3] http://www.wired.com/news/infostructure/0,1377,61166,00.html [4] http://www.linuxworld.com/story/37872.htm -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE/vqV6Hb99+vQX/88RAlxiAJ9q1hAnpc3mw3u+DmfouDxWHkAzjQCeJHN0 nqCWMWbUX5jtLWaDyLeeDc0= =Aj3E -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
