moin, moin, here's a rundown for the events in November. ### This Thursday is the East Side meeting at Sequoia. Event: East Side Meeting Topic: Myth TV Presenter: Eric Thelin Location: Sequoia Charter School, 1460 S. Horne, Mesa, AZ 85204-5760 Time: 19:00 on Thursday, the 13th of November Abstract: MythTV is a project to build a homebrew PVR (a TiVo type device). It will let you record and watch TV and even pause and rewind live TV. But that is only the beginning. It also plays music, plays nearly any format of video media, shows images, reports the weather, summarizes the news, plays DVDs, and plays emulated games. Of course, like any other major project it is dependant on many other projects to do most of the work. So the quickest and possibly the best way to describe it is to say it is a project to turn a Linux computer into a true multimedia appliance. Bio: Eric has been working with MythTV and other PVR projects for over a year. He is the founder of the Arizona PHP Users group (AzPHP). He has contributed small bits of code to a few projects including MythTV. He currently works at Insight as a web developer. ### Monday and Tuesday next week the Scottsdale Symphony Orchestra opens their season, which is co-sponsored by AZOTO. Please mention AZOTO when purchasing tickets. Event: Scottsdale Symphony Orchestra, http://www.scotsymph.org/ Program: Beethoven, Dvorak and Rachmaninoff Location: Grace Chapel, 8524 E. Thomas Rd, Scottsdale AZ 85251 Time: 19:30 on Monday and Tuesday the 17th and 18th of November ### Tuesday next week is the GNU/Linux Stammtisch at a new location: The Muse Cafe in Tempe. Event: GNU/Linux Stammtisch Location: The Muse Cafe/Artspace, 1032 S. Terrace Rd., Tempe, AZ 85281 Time: 19:00 to 23:00 on Tuesday the 18th of November Bandersnatch has undergone changes that make it undesirable for hanging out and talking. Join us at the Muse and decide for yourself if the new location works. Lemon and Terrace, just East of ASU's main campus. ### This month's West Side Meeting has not been finalized. The plan is to join DeLUG ( DeVry's new LUG ) for their opener, but they haven't yet finalized meeting details. In any case congrats to David, Steve, and the rest of DeLUG for starting a new LUG! Watch the PLUG web site for details. ### AzPHP is Tuesday, the 25th. They don't yet know the topic because we've been slavedriving Eric to work on the East Side Meeting this month :). Look for those next year. ASULUG is working towards their CrackFest at the beginning of next year. Not quite a mini-DEFCON, but it should be quite interesting. In March MySQL will have someone in town for a presentation to AzPHP. ciao, der.hans -- # https://www.LuftHans.com/ http://www.AZOTO.org/ # "The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and # write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn." -- Alvin Toffler _______________________________________________ PLUG-announce mailing list - PLUG-announce@lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce PLUG Website at http://plug.phoenix.az.us
