I really meant it when I said I don't much. My son has a BSD machine running KDE that looks like, well, KDE. I don't think I would have known it wasn't Linux without being told. He did mention that he had some hassle getting his sound card to work. Maybe that's the advantage of Gentoo. Better support for hardware without having to do a lot of mucking about.
