If they're not updating shared libraries, they're opening new ports and sending back information. Spyware has become a monster. Digital fingerprinting in bios can't be too far off. Copy protection has traditionally been the domain of companies that don't can't provide enough value for their product for the price that they charge. The problem the RIAA has is that most people don't have the perception that downloading a song off the internet is stealing. Interestingly, I wonder if any of the Democratic presidential candidates has taken a position on repeal of the DCMA. Craig
