I want to print from my Windows box using the drivers on the Windows box (the Linux drivers for the printer are not very good). I did the following: 1. Installed the printer drivers on the Windows box (98 and 2000) and tested printing through the parallel port. It worked. 2. Installed Samba and SWAT on the Linux box. I can talk to Samba using Swat from the Windows box. 3. I started Add Printer on the Windows box, added a network printer, found the samba machine and the printer, and added the printer to my printers' folder. 4. I click on the newly installed printer, click on properties, and then print test page. I get an error message (test page failed to print) on the Windows box, but the samba log file is empty (the file is created, however). If I open Notepad and try to send a print job, I do not get an error, but nothing prints out and the log file is still empty. I think my printcap file is wrong, but I am not sure. Here it is # /etc/printcap: printer capability database. See printcap(5). # You can use the filter entries df, tf, cf, gf etc. for # your own filters. See /etc/filter.ps, /etc/filter.pcl and # the printcap(5) manual page for further details. lp|ij300|Compaq IJ300|Compaq:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\ :rw: :sh: # rlp|Remote printer entry:\ # :lp=:\ # :rm=remotehost:\ # :rp=remoteprinter:\ # :sd=/var/spool/lpd/remote:\ # :mx#0:\ # :sh: This is my smb.conf file # Samba config file created using SWAT # from 192.168.1.200 (192.168.1.200) # Date: 2003/09/23 09:25:51 # Global parameters [global] workgroup = @HOME server string = %h server (Samba %v) security = SHARE encrypt passwords = Yes passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passwd chat = *Enter\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n . syslog = 3 log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 1000 dns proxy = No [homes] comment = Home Directories create mask = 0700 directory mask = 0700 browseable = No [printers] comment = All Printers path = /tmp create mask = 0700 guest ok = Yes printable = Yes use client driver = Yes browseable = No Thanks for any help you can provide!
